The Ministry of Agriculture began experimenting with cooler climate vines in the Pemberton region in the late 1970s. As with New Zealand, the sauvignon blanc is good in this climate.
Donnelly River; Fontys Pool; Hidden River; Lost Lake; Smithbrook some of the dozen or so wineries in the Pemberton district along with Merum; Mountford; Black George; Phillips Estate in Channybearup Road. And the superb offerings from the Picardy Winery; its fabulous Merlimont and excellent Pinot noir certainly worth adding some days onto an itinerary for.
