Also known as Warmun, for the Warmun Community who are the traditional Aboriginal owners of the region. Turkey Creek is a remote outback township on the Great Northern Highway between Fitzroy Crossing and Kununurra. Turkey Creek is some 3019km from Perth, 858km east of Broome and 359km south of Kununurra. Turkey Creek is north east of the World Heritage Area Purnululu National Park and the famous Bungle Bungle Ranges.

The Bungle Bungles are located south west of Turkey Creek along a 55km track which is absolutely only suitable for large 4wds with high clearance. Even then between three to four hours should be allowed for the journey to the campsites in the Bungle Bungles. The journey into the Bungle Bungles is a serious outback adventure. The Bungle Bungle Range is part of the Purnululu National Park and is of great cultural significance to the aboriginal people of that country. History tells of the safe haven provided by Purnululu during the infamous brutal massacres that took place in the days of early settlement. The Bungle Bungles were formed some 350 million years ago and the sandstone massif, which has been eroded throughout the millennium by nature, is likened to beehives, with gigantic bell shaped rock towers banded horizontally by layers of black lichens and orange silica. Occasionally splashes of white can be seen, where lightening has struck the beehive during the last Kimberley wet. It is essential to keep to the natural paths and not climb over the sandstone mounds that are so fine that they crumble when touched.
