Located 50 km north of Albany, the Porongurup Range covers some of the oldest landform in the world. The area of the Porongurup Ranges is 12 km long reaching hight of up to 670 metres above sea level. The Porongurups are part of the Stirling Range National Park.

The Porongurup Ranges is a very popular location for bushwalker. The walking trails in the Porongurups vary, with trails up to 5 km long. The Porongurup walking trails range from strenuous to short easy walks, such as the 10-minute Tree in the Rock stroll.Other famed walking trails in the Porongurups include the intermediate bush walk to the Castle and Balancing Rocks 2 hours, the harder Hayward and Nancy Peaks four hours and excellent Peaks four hours and excellent Devils slide and Marmabup Rock three hours walks. These times are not precise and all due care and attention should be taken when planning excursions into the wilderness.The picnic facilities in the middle of the park near to the Tree in the Rock have free gas BBQs, tables and chairs and toilets.A scenic 6km drive along the northern edge of the park starts near the rangers residence.

Wildflowers are at their peak in the Porongurup area in late September and October. A wildflower festival is held in October.

The fertile soil in the Porongurup area has enabled many wineries to become established. The wine region is the Great Southern Wine Region, specialising in cooler climate wines.
