The traditional Aboriginal owners of the country around the Bunbury area are the Noongar people.
Europeans first settled the Bunbury region in 1838. The early settlers called the settlement which later became Bunbury Port Leschenault. The port of Bunbury was vital to the opening up of the South West of Western Australia, importing the many needs of the young colony and exporting the wood and wool that supported the early settlers.
