Muchea Township is situated some 65 kms north of Perth near the junction of the Brand Highway and Great Northern Highway. 1854, a surveyor called the site 'Muchea' using an Aboriginal word whose meaning is now obscure. Muchea pronounced ' moo-shay' was gazetted in 1904. Muchea is in the south west of the Shire of Chittering, near the Gnangarra Mound, an important water catchment area for Western Australia and the GinGin Scarp. Muchea once supported a school and much agriculture.

Muchea is in an important wildflower region. The Muchea Gold Wildflower Farm grows wildflowers, which it sells throughout the world. The Muchea Gold Wildflowers Farm sells some half a million bunches of Western Australian wildflowers annually.
Muchea is one of the Townships located in the wider Swan District Wine Region.The wineries are concentrated close to the Swan River, where the flat alluvial Sean River plain has laid very deep and well-drained soil. Many boutique wineries, with cellar door sales have evolved in the Chittering region. The region mainly produces Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Semillon verdelho, Cab. Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz as quaffing or table wines. Some good fortified wines are also produced in the region.
