Named after Captain Middleton who arrived in 1834, bringing Governor James Stirling, the steady surf at Middleton Beach provided a handy method for off-loading supplies and stock into shore as some of the larger boats could not navigate the entrance of the harbour. Middleton Beach is a very popular, safe and beautiful beach for swimming and recreational beach activities. The waters are protected by King George Sound; the Southern Oceans waves do not reach these sheltered waters. Middleton Beach is the main swimming beach of Albany. The vibrant blue waters attract locals and visitors alike. The surrounding streets are lined with Norfolk Island Pines and a number of serene walks will afford you vistas you cant even imagine. Restaurants and cafes highlighting the best of local wines and fresh produce of the southwest and hinterlands and will allow you time out to relax and appreciate this charming beach.
