Leeman is 88 km south of Dongara and some 295 km north of Perth. 7km further north, Small Fishing Township on the coast north of Perth. Leeman is 40 km west of Eneabba, with its mines and wildflowers. Greenhead is 13km south of Leeman.Leeman was named for the Dutch navigator, Abraham Leeman van Santwits of the vessel Waeckende Boey, who was shipwrecked when looking for survivors from another Dutch ship, the De Vergulde Draeck, which had sank off the coast in 1656.

Lobster fishing fleets which anchor at both Green Head and Leeman ply the fertile Indian Ocean lobster grounds in season. Lobster fishing was developed as an industry in Western Australia in the 1950 and has become very important to the economy of Australia's Coral Coast. Fisherman islands, 4km southwest are an excellent fishing and diving spot, and are home to a large seal population. Salt Lakes lie behind the town. Stock Yard Gully National Park, to the east and is accessible by 4WD only. Dynamite Bay, south of Leeman near Greenhead, is a small bay with a sandy crescent-shaped beach, well protected by encircling rocky headlands and perfect for swimming.
