Gingin is situated some 84 km north of Perth.
Gingin is one of the oldest towns in WA, having been settled in 1832, only two years after the establishment of the Swan River Colony. There are many historic buildings on the Gingin Walkabout trail. The Gingin Cemetery, in the churchyard, alongside Granville Park has a spectacular display of kangaroo paws in springtime.
The Jim Gordon VC walk trail commemorates local hero and Victoria Cross winner Jim Gordon. The beautiful Jim Gordon VC trail leads alongside the Gingin Brook, with its abundance of Birdlife, paperbark trees and spectacular shows of arum lilies in the spring time.Granville Park is in the centre of the township. With grassed areas leading down to the river, Granville Park is an excellent location for a picnic. The Moore River National Park features Banksia woodlands.The Gravity Discovery Centre in Military Road was opened in 2003, this $4million centre offers informative and entertaining discoveries for the whole family.
Gingin Wineries are part of the wider Swan Region Wineries.The Cowalla Estate Winery near Gingin sits on the banks of the Cowalla pool. Cowella Estate Winery produces soft tannined sweet fruit, grown in the unique local tuart loam; ripened in the summer sun and cooled by breezes off the Indian Ocean. Cowalla Estate Winery uses the traditional open fermentation technique and then matures its wine in wood. Other wineries in the Gingin area are: Cheriton Estate; The Jyland Vineyard; Lennards Brook Estate; Moondah Brook Estate and Riseborough Estate Wineries.
