| Drysdale River Station - History | |
The area of Drysdale River Station was first taken up 1882 and Charles Burrows named the Drysdale River in 1886. The lease was next taken up by Captain Joe Bradshaw as part of a large area extending along the Prince Regent River. Lost while exploring in1891, Bradshaw first recorded the sophisticated Guion Rock Art believed to be from 50,000 years ago and now known as Bradshaws; these were not rediscovered until 1998.In 1967 Dick Condon took up the lease and invested his time and his money including building the current Drysdale River Homestead, met with unfavourable beef prices; he sold out to overseas ownership. The Kimberley region has great mineral wealth, and the whole area around Drysdale River Station is subject to many mining exploration leases. Miners Pool got it's name because Stockdale Prospecting had a long term base camp set up there in the early eighties.

Anne and John Koeyers run some 8000 head of cattle on the million acre working Kimberley cattle station. Recent pioneers, the Koeyers and their young family took up the lease in the wet of 1985, in the wake of cyclone Hector. Aborting their first attempt to reach the property, then taking five days to travel 480 kms they quickly recognized the bravery of Australia's earlier settlers and why visitors should not travel remote outback tracks in the wet season.
