Situated in the Cockburn Ranges of the Kimberley, 40 km off the Gibb river Road and a short 90 minute four wheel drive away from Kununurra and about as outback as you can get is Diggers Rest Station, a working cattle station.

Diggers Rest is full of typical Kimberley character; with saddles and swags and even the old station prison tree still stands.

Diggers Rest Station is a 20,000-acre working cattle station running some 2,500 Brahmans. Some have never been yarded and these can be what the stockmen call 'a bit toey' and an exciting experience as the horse riding drovers drive the cattle to the yards, where they are branded and ear marked. Diggers Rest Station and the Cockburn Ranges are featured in the movie Australia which features sstation horses, mustering, dinnercamps, yardwork, cattle dogs, bronco yards, and stockcamps on the long cattle drive.

Diggers Rest Station is a mecca for fishing tragics; Barramundi fishing in the Kimberley is for the seriously aspirational fisherman and Popeye Mullet too are excellent eating when the big Barras are biting.

See what Lady Sarah Ashley saw and fell in love with; perhaps the Speewah Valley on a six days trek in magnificent Kimberley scenery, with huge sandstone ranges and freshwater springs; perhaps experience the Oombulgurri Trek, along the original old Karunji Stock Route, with the Cockburn Ranges in view, then follow the Pentecost River before traversing Home Valley Station and up towards the Durack River; riding through marsh country, and over sandstone ridges, with good spring county along the way. Or trek from Diggers Rest Station to Parry's Creek and the Ord River.
