Boyup Brook is situated on the Blackwood River, in Australias South West and is 269kms southeast of Perth. Boyup Brook has a population of some 2090 souls.
The name Boyup is taken from the Aboriginal word ' booyup', meaning the ' place of much smoke' or ' place of big stones'. The name Boyup was originally given to the nearby Boyup pool. Boyup Brook was founded with the building of a school in 1900 and grew when the railway line from Donnybrook reached the settlement 1909.
The Carnaby Beetle and Butterfly Collection was put together by Keith Carnaby who is well regarded as a leading light in the field of entomology. The Boyup Brook Pioneer's Museum displays agricultural, commercial and domestic equipment. The Sandakan War Memorial honours 1500 Australian Prisoners of War. The Boyup Brook Flax Mill was built during WW II for production and was an important part of the war effort.The Boyup Brook Heritage Walk around Boyup Brook town centre displays some 23 plaques of interesting information and the Bicentennial Walking Trail is also a pleasant walk around town. Nearby is Harvey Dickson's Country Music; an entertainment shed with a difference is decorated wall-to-wall and floor-to-rafter with music memorabilia spanning 100 years. Norlup Homestead was built in 1874.
There are two well-established wineries in the Boyup Region - Blackwood Crest, off Chambers Road at Kulikup and Scotts Brook Winery, some 20km away at Mayanup.
The Haddleton Flora Reserve has extensive displays of fragrant brown and pink Boronia in season some 50km away. The Boyup Brook Flora Drives are self-guided tours with maps available locally.
