Amelup in Australias South West and is situated 100km north of Albany and some 19km from Borden off the Chester Pass Road. Borden is renowned for the replica Dutch windmill The Lily, created by Pluen and Hennie Hitzert and their family in the 1990s. With spectacular views across the Stirling Range National Park, the awesome Lily is a masterpiece of authenticity. The five story tall full sized windmill is exquisitely constructed from old recycled bricks, rich timbers, and capped with 24.6 metres of spectacular sail.Originally The Lily windmill was the family home and an excellent restaurant with the cutest round kitchen and the most fantastic views.Pluen brought Dutch millwrights from Schiedam in the Netherlands to Borden to construct the essential machinery of the mill and working Lily windmill produces stone ground organic wholemeal flour using local spelt wheat. The new, much larger Lily Restaurant continues to serve Hennie's Dutch specialities, using of course Pluens flour.
