Cruise in the Dugong Management Zone off Shark Bay for the opportunity to get a closer sighting of the dugong in the shallow waters of this restricted area. Fully grown these creatures can be up to 3 metres long and weigh 400kg.
Learn how the dugong mainly feeds on sea grass. Shark Bay has the largest sea grass banks in the world that attract around 10,000 dugongs, representing about 10 per cent of the worlds dugong population.
Discover the techniques that have been developed on this cruise to approach these shy and gentle creatures up close without disturbing them. Ask your guide how this animal was the origin of the mermaid myth.
Search for other marine life living in these crystal clear waters, including dolphins, turtles, sharks, sea snakes, stingrays and migrating birds, depending on the time of year.
