DAY 1 Broome - Windjana Gorge

Head east from Broome; explore Tunnel Creek the hideout of brave Jandamarra the fabled 19th century aboriginal freedom fighter, who eluded capture for years;

then enjoy your purpose built 4WD vehicle enroute to spot for crocodiles and ancient fossils at beautiful Windjana Gorge.

DAY 2 Windjana Gorge - Galvans Gorge

Hit the red dirt of the famous Gibb River Road traversing the magnificent King Leopold Range.

Stop to swim at one of the Kimberley’s most spectacular gorges, remote Galvans Gorge, before arriving at Manning Gorge.

Overnight: Overnight Manning Gorge National Park, bush camp – facilities

DAY 3 Galvans Gorge - King Edward River

Leave the Gibb at the Kalumburu Track passing massive cattle stations en route for the remote Mitchell Plateau.

  • Swim and bathe in refreshing pools well away from the river, and later spot for ‘floating eyes’ from the banks of the extraordinary King Edward River.

    DAY 4 Explore Mitchell Plateau

    Pass through forests of ancient Livistonia Palms; enjoy views that money can’t buy.

    Trek to Mertens Falls and then on to the famous Mitchell Falls, some of the most remote places in Australia.

    Swim; capture the awesome beauty on film or as priceless memories as 4 massive tiers of the Mitchell River thunder down as spectacular cascading waterfalls.

  • Enjoy the well-earned air taxi back to base camp alongside the splendid falls.

    DAY 5 King Edward River - Drysdale River

    Take reluctant leave of Mitchell Falls; ancient view Aboriginal rock art, including the fabled Wandjina art and the mysterious Bradshaw paintings.

    Arrive at the King Edward River for a swim and lunch. Trek to a working Kimberley cattle station, the historic Drysdale River station for a cold beer.

    DAY 6 Drysdale River - Pentecost Ranges

    Leave the remote Kalumburu Track for the remote Gibb River Rd; navigate through the stunning Pentecost Ranges, crossing the mighty Durack River and the Pentecost River, en-route to El Questro Wilderness Park.

    Take an optional cruise on the Chamberlain Gorge or perhaps hire a dingy to explore the gorge

    DAY 7 Pentecost Ranges - Kununurra

    Thrill to a soak in the thermal waters of the palm-fringed Zebedee Springs.Visit the magnificent El Questro gorge of the Wilderness Park;

    choose to hike through to the halfway point for a refreshing swim; or, for the more energetic, perhaps trek to the to the end for the pristine waterfall.

    Maybe spot wild brumbies or some of the brahma cross steers from the days when El Questro was a million acre cattle station.

    Head back to the relative civilization and wild beauty of Kununurra, the town built in the mid 20th century to service the incredible Ord River project, making the arid region the tropical fruit bowl of Australia.

    DAY 8 Kununurra - Bungles

    See the stupendous Lower Ord Irrigation Dam that feeds the fertile farms; view artwork of indigenous artists at the Warmun Art Centre before hitting the rugged track into the Purnululu National Park and the Bungle Bungles.

    Discover the beehive domes and wilderness of Echidna Chasm. Continue via 4WD-only access tracks to set up camp and experience a magnificent Bungle Bungle sunset.

    DAY 9 Explore Bungles - Old Halls Creek

    Rise early to explore the mystical Bungles; perhaps be utterly awed with the majesty of Purnululu on an optional helicopter flight.

    Walk mid tiger-striped sandstone domes at Picanniny Creek to experience and the fabled Cathedral Gorge before heading back to the bitumen and the original gold mining town of Halls Creek, then to ‘new’ Hall's Creek.

    DAY 10 Old Halls Creek - Wolfe Creek Crater

    Explore the natural Chinaman's Wall before a brief stop at Halls Creek and again hit the red dirt of the Tanami track in the Tanami desert and absolute outback wilderness, where few have ever ventured.

    Arrive at the worlds’ second largest crater in the Wolfe Creek Crater National Park.

    Created by a stupendous meteorite collision with earth, millenniums ago, the ancient Wolfe Creek Crater, some 875m in diameter and 60m deep from rim to floor today, Wolfe Creed Crater is there for you to explore.

    DAY 11 Wolfe Creek Crater - Fitzroy River

    Hit the Tanami Track to Halls Creek and the Great Northern Highway then on to the mighty Fitzroy River.

    Day 12 Fitzroy River - Broome

    Head to Geikie Gorge for a cruise on the mighty Fitzroy River; admire the colourful cliffs, part of the Devonian reef system; perhaps spot some unique local aquatic wildlife.

    Continue west to the pearl town of Broome, stopping on route for a photo shot of the incredible, ancient boab trees that dominate the landscape. Arrive in Broome early afternoon.
