Day 1 Arrive in Broome

Enjoy your arrival in Broome with a welcome drink with your Tour Director and your fellow travelling companions.

Day 2 Broome

Revel on the tranquil Cable Beach where you have 22 kilometres of pristine sand to stroll along and turquoise blue water to swim in.

Wander through Chinatown, the original bustling centre of Broome and explore the pearl showrooms and galleries. Observe the original corrugated iron huts from the late 1800s, built when the worlds biggest shell pearl was discovered in Chinatown.

Relax in the evening by sitting back and watching a spectacular sunset over the Indian Ocean from the Cable Beach Club Resort.

Alternatively, you may like to enjoy the quintessential Broome experience of taking a camel ride along Cable Beach as you watch the sunset over the tranquil waters.

Day 3 Broome to Fitzroy Crossing

Encounter Derby, the oldest established town in the Kimberley, which is located on the tidal mud flats on the edge of King Sound. Look out on King Sound where the highest tides in Australia of around 11 metres high occur in March and April each year.

  • Experience the famous Prison Boab Tree just out of Derby, just beyond the Gibb River Road turn off. Observe the hollow trunk where the local police kept Aboriginal prisoners overnight in the 1890s before their sentencing in Derby.
  • Discover some of Australias biggest pastoral properties as you travel towards the remote township of Fitzroy Crossing. Fitzroy Crossing is set along the Great Northern Highway where the Highway crosses the Fitzroy River.

    Day 4 Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek

    Explore Geikie Gorge with a morning cruise and observe how the waters of the Fitzroy River tunnelling through the Napier Range are responsible for the gorge.

    Watch the Fitzroy River and Geikie Gorge for freshwater crocodiles, fruit bats and wallabies as you feel the 30 metre high limestone walls of the gorge towering above you.

    Travel to Halls Creek located on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert and on the doorstep of the World Heritage listed Bungle Bungle Ranges of Purnululu National Park. Immerse yourself in the predominantly desert and pastoral country scenery.

    Day 5 Halls Creek to El Questro Wilderness Park

    Discover the Argyle mining lease, north of Halls Creek and receive a guided tour of the Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine. This is the worlds largest diamond mine as it produces one quarter of the worlds diamonds annually.

    Journey to El Questro Wilderness Park in the afternoon and experience one of the few remaining wild frontiers in the world as it boasts a million acres in the heart of the Kimberley.

    Day 6 El Questro Wilderness Park

    Experience a morning cruise through Chamberlain Gorge which can only be accessed by boat and witness the three kilometre fresh waterhole fringed by tropical vegetation and 60 metre tall escarpments.

    Watch for photo opportunities of fresh water crocodiles sunning themselves as you glide past.

    Relax at Emma Gorge Resort where there is time to sit by the pool or to hike into Emma Gorge for a refreshing swim in the waterhole. Observe the towering cliffs that drop to a large permanent pool and sixty-five metres droplet waterfall.

    Day 7 El Questro Wilderness Park to Kununurra

    Travel to Parry Lagoon Nature Reserve in the morning and experience a haven for bird life in this region.

    Discover sensational views over the Cambridge Gulf at the 5 Rivers Lookout in Wyndham.

    Visit Warriu Park to see the Dreamtime Statues and rock art murals. Travel in the afternoon to the historic Durack Homestead, which was faithfully removed brick by brick and reconstructed to be a pioneer museum.

    Enjoy a cruise along the Ord River from Lake Argyle to Kununurra. Encounter the permanent water supply, which has become a haven for numerous birds and a variety of marsupials that inhabit the islands in the lake.

    Day 8 Kunnunurra

    Experience a tour of Kununurra, one of the youngest towns in Western Australia and a hub for the agriculture, tourism and mining industries in the east Kimberley.

    Encounter a portion of the Ord River Irrigation Scheme and observe how the waters from the Ord River are used to irrigate the agriculture of the tropical north.

    Travel to Mirima, more commonly known as Hidden Valley National Park, which is often referred to as a mini version of the Bungle Bungle Range. View the rugged cliffs, gullies and ridges that the secluded valley offers while you do some bushwalking.

    Admire panoramic views from Kellys Knob Lookout that stretch across the Kununurra township and irrigation area. Look down at some of Kununurras attractions including Diversion Dam, Lake Kununurra and the Sleeping Buddha rock from this vantage point.

    Day 9 Kununurra to Katherine

    Journey along the Victoria Highway and cross the border into the Northern Territory. Witness views of escarpment ranges, unique boab trees and the mighty Victoria River that runs into deep valleys and spectacular gorges.

    Experience the immense size of the vast cattle stations as you cross through them while travelling en route to Katherine.

    Overnight: Paraway Motel, Katherine

    Day 10 Katherine to Darwin

    Cruise the placid waters of the Katherine River through the 70 metre high cliffs of Katherine Gorge. Keep an eye out for photo opportunities of freshwater crocodiles as you wind through a portion of the 12 kilometre river.

    Discover the city of Darwin in the afternoon as you embark on an orientation tour of the city. Absorb Darwins multi-cultural atmosphere while being shown around the city famed for its markets and festivals, Asian cuisine and massive natural harbour.
